Stripmall Seasonal Planting

This is a quick shot of a Wheatley Plaza on Glen Cove Road in Long Island. Obviously, it was taken during much balmier weather, back in August.

I took it while driving, so it's not a great shot. But I really liked the unconventional palette of annual plants.

The cleomes look great and their height adds so much mass to the planting. The layperson may look at them and think they are lush, flowering shrubs, instead of annuals. Then you have the great contrast of the deep magenta petunias and the chartreuse elephant ears. I really love that combination. Some people think the chartreuse is too much or even tacky, but I love it. It's so vibrant-looking.

Best strip mall annual planting, ever.
